Being Senistive

... This is a horrible trait I posse. I take everything personal, and get offended when I reach out to people, or attempt to do good for others or go out of my way, to then have it go unappreciated. None the less, this isn't something I necessarily want my boys to see, or pick up on...

How do I teach them to be considerate of others, to love others, and to genuinely care about others, without taking things too personal? I feel like taking things personally makes you easy prey for those predators who try to send you emotional poison, I want my boys to be strong men, but compassionate about others.

AJ is such a gentle giant. The other day we were playing with friends, and his little buddy pushed him, of course AJ cried, but in the same token AJ has done the things like this (more or less to his friend in the past). Perhaps lessons like this will teach AJ "do onto others as you want done to yourself"? OR maybe this will teach him, I'll-get-you-before-you-get-me? I guess we will just figure out how to not over react to others on this journey together.

Love Goes Into MY babies food.... What's In Yours?

I understand that not everyone has the time OR the desire to spend countless hours slaving over a stove to not only prepare meals for the big people in your family, but then peel, chop, steam, and puree a completely other dish- PHEW! That sounds exhausting.

However let me assure you, it's SUPER EASY!!! And here's some information that will make you second guess shoveling a spoon full of jarred "who-knows-what" into your bundle of joys mouth.

1.Such companies like Gerber replace real food with water and thickening agents in many of their products for children over six months of age. Such adulterated products are nutritionally inferior to products made with more fruits and vegetables. The last time I checked flours and chemically modified starches lack proper, if any nutrition.

2. Baby foods are very high priced compared to similar regular foods. Baby foods cost far more per ounce than fresh vegetables and fruits.

3. Before the age of two baby brains are developing at a rapid rate and the organs are most likely to be sensitive to exposure to the harmful substances found in such baby foods.

End Of The Year! End Of the Semester!

Now that I have taken my final exam, and written my last paper- of the semester, I have all this "free time on my hands". However with children you all know that isn't much. None the less I am determined to start a nice and early bed time routine for EVERYONE in my house, including myself. I will make it to the gym at least 4 times a week.. OK that's a little excessive, even with "spare time", I will make it to the gym 3 times a week?? That sounds better. (now to seem a bite more confident on that goal) I WILL MAKE IT! I will begin my mediation I have been dying to do, which I hope will bring me inner peace, and I will finish the 3 books on my night stand that I started reading in July. These are all my new years resolution a little early I guess. But since the New Year isn't here yet I will simply call it my free time resolution.

My Little Raindeer

Latin Night @ The Casado Household

Tonight for dinner we're having pork chops (chuletas), fried plantains (tostones), white and beans (arros y frijoles) and green beans.. which of course I don't know this one in Spanish, so we'll just say la green beans, lol.

Any-who I feel it's so important for my children to know both parts of their heritage, rather it's through food, music, arts, movies... whatever way we can teach them about who they are and where they roots trace back to works for my family.

Barbie Doll by by Marge Piercy

This girlchild was born as usual
and presented dolls that did pee-pee
and miniature GE stoves and irons
and wee lipsticks the color of cherry candy.
Then in the magic of puberty, a classmate said:
You have a great big nose and fat legs.

She was healthy, tested intelligent,
possessed strong arms and back,
abundant sexual drive and manual dexterity.
She went to and fro apologizing.
Everyone saw a fat nose on thick legs.

She was advised to play coy,
exhorted to come on hearty,
exercise, diet, smile and wheedle.
Her good nature wore out
like a fan belt.
So she cut off her nose and her legs
and offered them up.
In the casket displayed on satin she lay
with the undertaker's cosmetics painted on,
a turned-up putty nose,
dressed in a pink and white nightie.
Doesn't she look pretty? everyone said.
Consummation at last.
To every woman a happy ending.

This poem is a beautifully written one! Rather frustrating, and true. As a mother to 2 boys I do and will continue to make it an effort to encourage self admiration, and to appreciate the beauty of everyone and everything around us. Children grasp these important lessons early on, which is why it's important to expose them to different cultures, different shades of skin, different creed of women, men, and children. It is also important for my boys to know how strong and important women and men are alike.

I think it's not only up to mother's of daughters to deter this vicious cycle from repeating, but also mothers of sons.

this was a nice video accompanying the poem

Outfit Of The Week

As a nursing, baby-wearing, fashionista, momma I need to be comfortable, have my boobie easily accessible, and look stylish at the same time. With that said I have noticed how many mommies appreciate my take on fashion, so I wanted to begin to offer a look of the week (wishful thinking for look of the day).

Everything I wear is machine washable- Lord knows I don't have time to fit another errand into my busy life, nor the budget. I don't mind getting boogies, spit-up, crayons, and mud on my clothes, and thank goodness for spray-n-wash because everything I get on my lovely wardrobe comes out.

Here's my 1st look:

Shirt by Raplh Lauren (Marshalls)
Pants by True Religion (Marshalls)
Sweater by JCrew- outlet (Kittery, ME)
Scarf by GAP- clearance
Boots are Zara- paid full price of $100.00 about 2 years ago

ENJOY =) And have fun dressing.

PS- here's one of my favorite blogs to follow for inspiration.

Etsy- obessions

Today I received some beautiful hand knit-with love hats for Liam. I am like in awe with the things you can find on Etsy.

Of course AJ was tickled and obsessed with them, so now I have to hope and pray Courtney will be able to make some in AJ's size.

Check out these beautiful hats! (AJ's being silly per usual & wearing Liam's hat)

Traditions Start Somewhere

I yearn for my own family traditions. I want to be like ‘big momma’ (from Soul Food- of course this will be in like 60 years). So I'm setting out to start those customs- beginning with Halloween Parties. I mean seriously, who doesn’t want to dunk their heads in water, mess up their makeup, and bite the same apple 5 people before them tried to gnaw at? Eat boat loads of candy, and dance to spooky music, while celebrating things that personally scare the mess out of me?

As I prepare for the coming festivities, I have once again put on my DIY hat, and made the invitations!! They were so cute! And FUN!

In honor of spreading the love, I am giving away 25 custom invitations to the 25th follower of my blog!! The invitations can be Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years eve, or Birthday invitations. I will email the winner templates to choose from.

On a Mission for Sleep

For almost 2 years now I have struggled with getting my toddler to sleep through the night and in his bed. Now throw in a baby to the mix. I'm exhausted. I'm delirious half the time. Cranky. Moody. I'm getting headaches, irritable, and worst of all I'm loosing patience.

Being sleep deprived is not good for anyone, so now I'm on a mission for an answer. I have tried to rock, sing, rub, bounce, nurse, and play with my boys to the point of tiredness. This doesn't work efficently. I have also tried allowing them to cry it out to an extent. Personally the sound of the cries isn't work my sanity, if that makes any sense (remember I'm half way delusional). And I'm attempting to not put labels on myself, but I am definitely a natural parent- meaning I do what feels natural for me. And I don't feel right letting them cry out for me, but I don't feel right not giving them 100% of me, because I'm physically and psychological spent.

I've decided to read The No-Cry Sleep Solution  as well as Solve Your Childs Sleep Problems. I hope to get more reference, and insight. I'm not sure which technique I'm going to adapt, but I know this- whatever I do is in the best interest for my boys. And I love them dearly, and should they "cry it out", and be cuddled every night I will do it with every ounce of love in my body.

Slowly Slimming Down

I just tried on 4 pairs of jeans, and all of them were practically falling off! Now most people would be overly excited, in my case it's bitter sweet. See all of my jeans were PRE-baby and before motherhood I spent every penny I earned on myself! Therefore my jeans cost upwards of 200.00 per pair. This is sickening, to think I once spent that amount of money on jeans (well not really! haha.) If we could afford our lifestyle, savings for children, and retirement I'd buy them all over again, yet sadly we can't, so now I'm bummed.

Luckily for my mother who is currently the size all my too big jeans, gets to inherit them!

If you're wondering what I'm doing to loose weight, stay tuned, and I will keep you posted.

When the kids are asleep the Parents will... EAT!

I have realized that being a SAHM has taught me more than the obvious. One of my newly acquired skills is being capable of providing a fine dining foodie experience at home; thanks to McKinnon's that is.The wonderfully neat, and inviting store, with knowledgeable staff, always gets my taste buds eagerly excited. Today they paired some Brie, with a fig spread on top Crostini's with a White Merlot.

Yum! Yum! Yummy! And all of this was under $20!!

I still ADORE my moby wrap!!!

6 months, and going strong. Liam is just as comfortable as the day I first wore him!! This wrap simply doesn't compare to the baby Bjorn, which made my back hurt, was completely uncomfortable, and simply didn't offer the support the Moby does. I am able to use it as a semi cover when nursing, and blanket for my toddler. I love the unconventional usage I get.

I would suggest ordering two, so that when one is dirty or being washed you have another to wear.

Where Do I Fit In?

SO I recently started thinking about my childhood... Growing up in a not-so diverse part of the country, and always feeling like I never fit in.

See with the African American kids I was too "upity", I spoke like a "white girl"; because I didn't use slang, and I dind't repeat that horrible N-word, I wanted to the white, or act white. With the white kids I always felt the most comfortable, yet I knew I didn't look like them. My culture was completely different then theres, and the way they spoke to and about their parents made me scared for them (my parent's were zero tolerence to disrepect as they should have been).... Oh and the Mexicans, I coudln't understand a word they were saying!

Fast forward about 2 decades, now I'm feeling that way again! Where do I fit in? Where do my children belong? At our play-dates and amongst our friends we're always the minority, will my boys ever pick up that they're different? I don't want them growing up feeling insecure with who they are, because they don't know who they are. Am I worrying too soon? Or am I concerned for a good reason?

I want so desperately to have friends of my race, and culture, who have the same moral standards and upbringing as I did (WITH CHILDREN OF THEIR OWN); do they exist? The wonderful thing about New England is the all the culture, the horrible thing is all the culture..... Where are the African Americans????

One Hungry Mama & A Picky Eatting Toddler

So today I stumbled upon this wonderfully delicious looking website. One Hungry Mama- the creator is a NY mother of two picky little eatters, who once worked as a creator for cartoons, holds a M.A. in Psychology, and NOW creates yummy meals to share with the world!

So I went out on the whim tonight, and decided I would make her Shrimp Marsala for dinner (with no back up meal for AJ should he choose to NOT want to eat it). And BAM (in my Emeril Lagasse voice)! To my surprise he ate it! I'm thrilled!!!! check out this wonderful wonderful website, and enjoy the tastiness.

"You're not my mommy!"

... That's what I heard soon after walking into Target this afternoon. As I turned I seen a woman scolded two teenagers from a distance, and another pre-teen standing next to her. Of course the first thing that came to mind was "Oh.. she's the stepmom!" lol... See I have like 3 steps moms, godmoms, auntie-moms, grandmoms, and great grandmoms, so I'm used to that phrase"you're not my mom!". SO I laughed it off and kept on looking through the dollar section( my fav!!), however then another set of parents looked over and said "oh you're talking to our kids, I thought you were yelling at yours", they seemed unbothered by the fact that someone else was discplining their children... I was confused?!? Like how is it as a parent you're not bewildered that some COMPLETE stranger just wagged her finger at your children??? I am very particular about people crossing lines of what is acceptable and what isn't, but I am also big on not allowing children to disrespect themselves or an adult.

I guess the question is; when is it ok to allow someone else to discipline your children???

Well I got one of the batches I ordered! I picked up the order from Thanks Mama (in Newton, MA)... Note this is not a retail store but a warehouse setup. I was kind of bummed I wanted to see the size of their wetbags, but because it was packed up they wouldn't open it to show me!!! Not a big deal.

I got the flips, and the Kawaii! Again the flips are a hybrid system- meaning you and change out disposables, and stay-dry cloth inserts. Kawaii I intend to use for bedtime, as they have high ratings.

Here's a link for a video/tutorial on how to change

I also received my sunbabies *note they took over 3 weeks to be delivered- To give them some slack they are being shipped from China. They were the CHEAPEST opitions out there so I patiently awaited their arrival.

Sunbabies (pictured to the left)- You get what you pay for... These are mostly used for day time, Napping, and Bed time are not the best times for usage, as they don't absorb well, and have some leakage problems.

Kawaii- LOVE THEM!!! NO leakage! They stay full through the night, and they're super plush on the inside.

Flips-are great for when we're out, since I just have to bring extra inserts (which I usually take the disposals- depending on where we're going)

I do plan to order a diaper sprayer because dunking poopie diapers in the toilet is NOT fun! lol. I also NEED more Kawaii since both boys are now CD'ing FULL TIME.Now I have 20 Bunbabies, 2 Kawaii's, a 3 flips, and this usually only gets me through 2 days of CD'ing 2 boys... I definitely need more! I don't want to wash every other day, it's exhausting. But on a VERY POSITIVE side AJ's diaper rashes =GONE!!!!!

I'm A Housewife, Are You?

What is a housewife? Wikipedia has decided any married woman whose main occupation is caring for her family, managing household affairs, and doing housework is just that. That brings up a valid debate... Is a working woman a housewife, I mean she cooks, cleans, and keeps her home orderly, right? In my opinion, if your MAIN and only responsibility isn't cooking, cleaning, and physically taking care of your family then NO, you are not a housewife, but a wife and a mother... And in every respect that is fine.
Logically if you are outside of the house for more then 8 hours a day how can you be a housewife? There is no way in hell you are doing the same thing as someone who is in the house for 90 percent of their day. When your husband comes home and dinner isn't on the table, your your laundry basket isn't full of neatly folded clothes, waiting to be put away, if your closet is organized and categorized... if you aren't personally putting together activities for your toddler, and baking daily, then you're not a housewife. Granted everyone is aware that I am a part time student, but I don't leave my house but for 2-4 hours A WEEK... That is my break, my bit of sanity outside of the house... but other then that I am home... I am a True housewife.

CD'ing! Still no diapers?!

So I'm still patiently waiting for my cloth diapers to arrive (which I placed my order on 7/20!!!). To cut the company some credit they are being shipped from China- I ordered the Sunbaby 4.0 diaper after reading the good reviews and seeing how reasonably priced they were.

Anywho they haven't arrived yet, and I'm down to about 10 diapers!!!!!!!!! Soooooo I started looking around and found Thanks Mama which is located in Newton (MA). Thank goodness! I'm able to place my order online and have them delivered for free or pick them up in store! Awesome right?! I was refusing to buy another bag or disposables for AJ, although Liam still have plenty. I ordered the Flip Diaper system which is a hybrid- I will be able to switch between the stay dry insert, AND get this- A DISPOSABLE insert for when we're out!! This will also be a great way to transition over as the hubs isn't fond of CD'ing. I also ordered some Kawaii heavy wetters for night time, and I plan to try out BestBottoms which is another hybrid system with great reviews!

I will update this week with pictures and I'm sure stories. =)

Blueberry & Raspberry Cobbler

So funny story behind this recipe- I had this amazing apple cobbler a few months back, it was perfection in my mouth! I asked for the recipe, but was shot down and told it was a secret family recipe... That stinks- Here I am 9 months pregnant and CRAVING IT! Oh well, I went on a journey to find this "family secret", and wallah! I came SUPER close!! My recipes are NOT secret, I share with everyone =) (LOL)

For the fruit
1 pint of raspberries, rinsed and dried
1 pint blueberries, rinsed and dried
2/3 cup packed dark-brown sugar
2 tablespoons flour
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
One roll of sugar cookie dough
*I also sprinkled about 2 tablespoons of wheat germ in the fruit mixture.

Preheat oven to 350°F.Toss raspberries with blueberries, sugar, flour, lemon juice, cinnamon and salt in a ovenproof dish.

Crumble cookie dough over fruit, covering thickly and completely. Bake uncovered until cookie crust is golden and crisp, and juices bubble thickly, about 45 minutes.

Mothering Mindset of a 35 Year Old???

Today has been a post worthy day. With a great conversation I had with my cousin, I have come to the realization that I am NOT your typical 25 year old mother and wife. I was also convinced that when others refer to my age, and point out the obvious (YES I am YOUNG!, it is meant in no way offensive, they are shocked to see me doing what I do with my boys, and practicing the parenting techniques I swear by.

I guess the difference between me and most women my age is I chose this! My son was wanted and planned. my husband is not some guy I met then got knocked up by, but he's my best friend of almost 10 years. I put my wants and desire on the back burner for motherhood..... I am a mother first, everything else follows. =) I make scarifies to raise my children myself, and instill the morals in them that have made me the person I am today..... well we tweak some of them, because I can be somewhat of a diva! (LOL)

Well with that said I am not one to leave my children easily... I struggle with not feeling guilty for wanting a night out with my husband alone. So when I see women who aren't dying to be with their children ALL THE TIME, I am confused. Call me judgmental, say what you want. I simply feel like when babies are as young as mine they need me more then I need a break... But don't get me wrong I DOOOOOOO need a break from time to time (and that's normal), but that is what "Daddy time" is for, or being spoiled rotten by their grandparents =) I just can't relate to a woman leaving their children for any other reason besides 1. Needing to provide their children with financial stability (ie work or school) 2. Maintaining a healthy relationship with your spouse. 3. Needing a break occasionally, but really, all the time is not cool in my book... Then again I am a mother first and everything else follows.

$12 for $100 Gift Certificates!!!! is having their (what I think is a) semi annual sale!!! Use code: SAVE and get 80% of their already discounted certificates.

I got $25.00 GC for T he Melting Pot in Boston, Odyssey Cruise, Spirit Cruise, and Blue Finn (in Haverhill)for $12.00 TOTAL! So yay to having something to motivate Allen and I to get out of the house ALONE =)

FREEEE Time In The Summer Time

So I finally have a free moment- Well I'm taking a break for doing some homework, and BOTH... YES BOTH babies are sleeping (go me!).

I have been sooo busy lately, busy enjoy every second of life that is. We went to Newburyport, Allen and AJ walked around the riverfront looking at boats, while Liam and I laid on the grass enjoying a good read. We have also enjoyed some family time at cookouts, The beach, Blueberry picking, AND my house is finally clean again! lol.

I have been enjoying summer and my family so much, and attempting to relax a bit, it feels good. Last night I had my brother-in-law and his girlfriend over... who btw is super adorable <3 her.... I made Chicken Marsala which was super easy and super yummy!!!!! Check it out below, and enjoy.

* 1/4 cup all-purpose flour for coating
* 1/2 teaspoon salt
* 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
* 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
* 4 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves - pounded 1/4 inch thick
* 4 tablespoons butter
* 4 tablespoons olive oil
* 1 cup sliced mushrooms
* 1/2 cup Marsala wine
* 1/4 cup cooking sherry

1. In a shallow dish or bowl, mix together the flour, salt, pepper and oregano. Coat chicken pieces in flour mixture.
2. In a large skillet, melt butter in oil over medium heat. Place chicken in the pan, and lightly brown. Turn over chicken pieces, and add mushrooms. Pour in wine and sherry. Cover skillet; simmer chicken 10 minutes, turning once, until no longer pink and juices run clear.

Day ....I lost track.... of not wanting to sleep in his crib

I've honestly lost count on which day we're on, but AJ is refusing to go down naps and bedtime in his crib... He was hasn't done this in months.

I've been doing MAJOR research, the few things I'm coming up with is that 1. He could have mentally outgrown the crib, and be ready for the big boy bed. 2. Around 18 months (AJ is 19 months) children go through separation anxiety. 3. His MOLARS could be coming in! I know those big fat painful teeth are coming in, however they've been coming in for forever now... I'm over blaming the teeth, it has to be something more????

Is/Has anyone experienced this? HELP!

After about 10 minutes of crying (off and on) he is sleeping, in his crib!!! Let's pray he stays there. Perhaps Allen and I simply need to stick to our guns, and not give in to taking him out, and putting him in our bed?

High Strung? NO I'm a MOTHER!

So Allen comes home this evening from his class, and gives me this test to take.. He explained that it has to do with stress levels, and he scored a 32… LOL! Allen + stress = nonexistent, he’s so easy going I HATE HIM!

So I start taking the test, and half way through I already have a 30! LOL! Should I even bother to continue?? About 10 questions later I have a 62! I am high-strung and at risk for cardiac arrest! *Geez* I just thought I was an over achiever… In all reality I'm a mother, we're up before everyone, and sleep way after. I'm a busy bee, who never has free hands because idle hands lead to mountains of work. Anywho like I explained to Allen, I work hard and play hard, I get “my time” in.. I make sure to workout (lately), I get primped. When I am getting a bi weekly pedi, and weekly mani I AM enjoying EVERY second! Yesterday I spent 3 hours in the hair salon (I went back to my extension) and let me tell you I missed my boys, but for the 1st time I didn’t call home ONCE!

So just because I’m high-strung (for now) I make sure to attempt to balance…… As much as possible, and when my budget allows it.

But here's some tips I use to help with my stress levels *Atleast I thought this was helping**

1. Sync your calendars- There are SOOO many times I am on the computer entering things into my Google calendar, then I'm on the go entering things into my blackberry, not having corresponding calendars could cause a mess, and be time consuming to fix!

2. Nap time is YOUR TIME!- Take a break, read a book- I need to follow this rule... some days I do divide up naptime, half goes to productive activities, the other half to REST!

3. Get in the habit of cleaning- Every room you enter FIX something, every room you leave take something! Never leave a room with empty hands, there is always something that needs to be put in it's place, or straightened.

4. Finally lose the guilt and the stress if things are perfect- I'm STILL WORKING on this.

Monday, July 11, 2011

....So why doesn't my son (the 19 month old) get that... Today he is screaming at the top of lungs whenever we go near his crib. He NEVER does this *atleast not for a nap*, maybe because Daddy overly wore him out playing outside for like 3 hours? Either way this is bound to be a LONG day with no nap... Any ideas on what to do when your toddler or baby for that matter WON'T NAP! I hope this isn't the start to no naps. I have never established a naptime routine, maybe I should? Thoughts/suggestions/inputs needed?

Allen is rocking him in the chair, GUESS WHAT?!?! He's falling asleep- I think... LOL. We shall see.

AJ is NOW awake, and Daddy's defeated!!! Darn it! now what? Let him run around, and MAYBE he'll pass out on the floor somewhere?? LOL

My Smiles Come From My Boys

Just wanted to share a very special moment in my life....

As I look down at my precious almost 3 month old baby boy I smiled thinking about how I was just carrying him in my womb, enjoying every little kick, and tumble he did in my belly! He's absolutely perfect! I look to my right and my super active, very bright 19 month old smiles at me holding his little brother, and my heart MELTS! Oh the joys of this moment! I cherish very second, and THANK GOD EVERY DAY for my family!

So yesterday Allen and I loaded up the boys dropped them off to their Abuela's, and we spent the morning and afternoon together as a couple!!! It was wonderful. We got massages, had lunch at Bertuccis, and did some shopping in downtown Andover. Allen let me go from store to store trying on cloths, giving me suggestions, and allowing me to patiently look. It was so much fun! At one point I joked with Allen, asking if he was having fun. He smiled, and said "I'm having fun, take your time, you don't get many moment's like this". I think I fell in love with him all over again! Not only did he acknowledge that I live my selfless life around my boys, but that he DID appreciate it!

I don't know if men really understand what simple appreciation does for us women, some days I don't want to hear I'm pretty, sexy, smart or an amazing cook (Although I know I am all thee above LOL), I want to hear that I'm valued.

On a side note I found THE CUTEST boutique new to the area- Bobbles and Lace, Not only is there stuff super cute affordable, and comfy, but the owner's MIL was sooooo nice!!! I know where my extra money will be going to! hehe =)

I Think Therefore I Am: SUPER!!

Sorry I didn't get to post yesterday, I'm actually recovering from a virus- I self-diagnosed the flu (take a few course towards Nursing and I'm suddenly a MD! go figure lol)... After laying in bed for a day I got so anxious I felt like a ton of bricks fell on top of me. People joke that I’m a Super Mom; I stay home with my two UNDER TWO! I sell Pampered Chef part time, I’m in school for Nursing, I cook dinner 5-6 nights a week… all FRESH, no frozen meals, my house is ALWAYS clean, and I’m finding time to work out lately! *I’m tired just thinking about all that! Hehe. Super mom is a bit of a stretch, I'm a mom who averages 5 hours of sleep (on a good night) to get everything accomplished, but hey, I'm sure there are plenty of "us" out there. Where do I get the energy? lol. A 18 month old + But B12 Vitamins are my secrets (shhh! Don't tell anyone). But in all seriousness I’m a control freak & OVER achiever! I’m not normal… 5 days after having my second c-section was cooking and cleaning! Haha. But it’s me, and not everyone is like me, but in your own right you’re still a super mom. =) Just think it, and harmonize it “I will be SUPER…. I will be SUPER… I WILL BE SUPERRRRR”…. XOXO

Tot In Training.... School Aye?

I recently stumbled upon a site that is going to be a great assist over the course of the next couple of years to better prepare AJ, Liam and Allen and I for their journey toward school. Education is SUPER important Allen and I. And we want it to be enjoyable. Finding great ways to incorporate a schedule, routines, and/or activities that are educational is my new mission!! I'm ALWAYS a woman on a mission. lol. Well this concept called Tot School is my new reference. Check it out, I hope it works for you.

And Again With My Sweet Tooth

So my awful sweet tooth has struck again! UGH! Well my dread is your gain; in a delightfully easy and tasty recipe.

Please excuse the poor quality of the photo, my camera was dead so I took in on Allen’s iphone. Also I used a rather large trifle bowl. I MUST invest in a smaller one, maybe if I host another Pampered Chef party this month I can afford another one. Lol.

1 pkg (18-21 oz) fudge brownie mix (plus ingredients to make brownies)
1 container (16 oz) Lite whipped topping
1 Nestle bag of chunks of chocolate
1/2-1 cup coffee liqueur divided
1/2 cup water
3 tbsp instant coffee granules
2 pkg (8 oz each) low-fat cream cheese, softened
1 pkg (3.3 oz) vanilla instant pudding and pie filling

1. Preheat oven to according the Brownie package. Line Large Sheet Pan with a 20-in. piece of Parchment Paper; set aside. Prepare brownie mix according to package directions. Pour batter into pan; bake as directed or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Remove brownie from pan to Cooling Rack.

2. Meanwhile, For filling, combine 1/2 cup coffee liqueur, water and instant coffee, stir until dissolved. In Mixing Bowl, whisk cream cheese until smooth. Gradually add coffee mixture to cream cheese; whisk until smooth. Add pudding mix to cream cheese mixture; whisk until mixture begins to thicken. Fold in whipped topping and chocolate chunks, set aside.

3. Cut brownie into 1-in. cubes . If desired, using Basting Brush, brush brownie cubes with additional 1/2 cup coffee liqueur.

4. To assemble trifle, place one-third of the brownie cubes into Trifle Bowl. Layer one-third of the filling evenly over brownies. Repeat layers two more times. decorate with whipped topping. sprinkle some of the chocolate over whipped topping.

Picky Eater, Aye?

For my son that is becoming more and more of a picky eater I'm becoming more and more crafty! With one bag of baby carrots, ground beef, and seasoning I made sure AJ got his recommended daily dose of veggies. I chopped up about 1 1/2 servings of carrots (15 baby carrots) and "hide" it inside of his hamburger (before cooking)- GENIUS! I know. lol. It worked he devoured it, of course because it's meat, and that's all he wants. Darn carnivore!

C is for cookie, and that's NOT enough for me!!!

So this has gotten out of control! My cravings since having Liam have heightened! Instead of returning to my normal eating habits I crave cookies, brownies, cakes, and candy!!! I've never been this bad with sweets. Perhaps it's because I'm nursing? I just know I dind't eat this bad when I was pregnant... What is going on with my body?!? I did read somewhere that breastfed babies need chocolate? Maybe my body knows what's it's doing??? OMG! If not I'm going to need serious help.

Date Nights Are Like Water

Date Nights are like water….. You need them to survive

Allen and I finally made it out for a date night, we saw Hangover 2… I remember when movies like this were so relate-able at times. =) Now I watch these movies thinking “REALLY?! You have to be kidding me!”. Any who it was nice to have a break, although I missed my boys like CRAZY! It was refreshing to have the opportunity to miss them.
Because I practice attachment parenting I had my mother and grandmother stay with the boys, my mother wore Liam in his Moby Wrap and he was perfectly fine… That of course helped me to feel better, and I was able to enjoy the movie a little more knowing he would be comfortable, and feel “safe”. We went to a theater so close we walked… this also left me at ease in case we would need to leave so I could nurse.

Over all I think this was a good first night out since being the parents of two as a movie forced us to relax and not just talk about the kids the entire night (LOL). YAY to Date night, I’m looking forward to the next one.

While watching the movie I did have a yummy drink which inspired me... I know what I will be making my next MNO (whose coming??)

Simply the Best Strawberry Champagne Cocktail

1/2 cup fresh strawberries
1/4 tsp vanilla extract
1/4 tsp freshly squeezed lemon juice
1 tsp sugar
champagne or sparkling wine

Wash and hull the strawberries. Put all the strawberries, except one, in a blender. Add vanilla, lemon juice, and sugar, and puree. Pour into a champagne flute half-way (more or less to taste). Top with champagne or sparkling wine, and stir gently. Slide the remaining strawberry onto edge of the glass.

I’m not a teen mom… but I’m not FORTY!

You know I feel as if I struggle to prove myself a young mother… but guess what, just because I’m not an “older” mother doesn’t mean I’m any less of a mother. Today I realized that perhaps I’m not a ‘normal’ young mother. I practice attachment parenting, I co-sleep, and I breastfeed…. I belong to mom-groups, and I attend parenting workshops. My husband and I believe in providing a safe, nurturing, and positive enriching environment for our children, and maybe not all young parents are as consumed in the well being of their children as we are.

I’m always apprehensive to divulge my age because it’s not typical to be at the level of maturity I’m at…. Allen on the other hand loves telling people how old he is, because he feels people give him kudus for being so accomplished at his age, regardless of what is expected of a 25 year old, I have enjoyed life! I got to travel, and I WANTED my children, I prayed and begged for my sons, this is the life I dreamed of. I knew I wanted 4 children by forty (lol), and I couldn’t be happier with the way things have turned out….. This isn’t for everyone but it was for me (and my husband).
As my blog states, I’m YOUNG, Married and Fabulous, but PLEASE don’t be fooled, I am a SUPER Mom who does it all, and will raise the most amazing children ever =)

Being the Mother of 10! Juggling the duties of many!

So a wise woman told me 1 is ONE, and 2 is TEN! And boy she wasn’t lying. Although my newborn is a very easy baby, very calm, and sleeps majority of the day I still can’t help but to be a bit overwhelmed at times. My pressure is self inflicted, as my children don’t realize that dinner is perfect, and the house isn’t immaculate I do! I have this desire to be perfect…. It is slowly becoming reality that I need to smile, take a breather and let go.

My boys will know when mommy is happy, and they will know that I took the time to read them a book, or go outside and play. So what to them if we don’t have empty laundry basket or mom’s nails are chipped? But rest assure that in order to keep a bit of my own sanity I will attempt to stay organize, I will use my time wisely, and I will juggle my family, household, and school duties gracefully.

A Meal Goes a Long Way.....

Start your day off with hearty and easy CARBS!!! Who doesn’t love something drowned in butter and syrup?  I know I do, AND a big breakfast is essential to be sure my husband has all the much needed energy to tackle MORE shoveling.

As a wife I feel I have certain duties, and one of those duties is to make sure Allen has something in his stomach every day before he begins his duties of providing for our family. Whether it’s a full out bacon, eggs, home fries and pancakes meal (which is what he had today) or a simple piece of toast with 1 tablespoon of peanut butter and orange juice I am sure that he is feel fed. But I don’t stop at breakfast, he get’s lunch and dinner as well, not only is it cheaper then ordering out, and healthier then fast food I LOVE caring for my spouse in whatever way possible!

Now I understand most women work, and just don’t have the time… so they think. Make the time! Wake up 10-15 minutes earlier and throw something together for both of you.  The effort and the gesture goes a long way, and I feel it is another piece of keeping a happy, healthy, and growing relationship.

Quick and Yummy Pancakes
